Rooting of Peach Cuttings Influenced by Cultivars and Hormonal Changes during the Rooting of Hardwood Cuttings

Abstract

|
|
1. Among the cultivars tested, the semi-hardwood cuttings of `Yumyeong¢¥ and `Nunome Wase¢¥, and hardwood cuttings of `Nurakata Wase¢¥ and `Sunaga Wase¢¥ showed good rooting results. `Cardinal¢¥ and `Ambergem¢¥ showed poor root development in cases of both semihardwood cuttings and hardwood cuttings.
2. Based on the bioassay results obtained with mung bean cuttings for 3 stages of rooting tested in different Rfs of the chromatogram, the concentration level of auxin or auxin-like substances) was the highest at the root initiation stage and then lowered with the elongation of the newly formed roots.
3. Easy-to-root cultivars, `Yumyeong¢¥ and `Sunaga Wase¢¥ appeared to accumulate endogenous auxin or auxin-like substance much faster than those difficult-to-root cultivars along with the rooting, suggesting a close relationship between the rate of auxin accumulation and the rooting.
